Inspirational Scriptures about Sadness
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold
in times of trouble.
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my
shield and the hornof my salvation, my stronghold.
For he has not despised or disdainedthe suffering of
the afflicted one;he has not hidden his face from
him but has listened to his cry for help.
One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the
days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of
trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he
will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and
set me high upon a rock.
Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes
in the morning.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves
those who are crushed in spirit
The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help
in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the
earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart
of the sea.
For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will
be our guide even to the end.
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain
you;he will never let the righteous fall.
Though you have made me see troubles, many and
bitter, you will restore my life again; from the
depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You
will increase my honor and comfort me once again.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the
strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve
my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger
of my foes, with your right hand you save me.
When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down,
but even in death the righteous have a refuge.
He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD
will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will
remove the disgrace of his people from all the
earth. The LORD has spoken.
But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, the Lord
has forgotten me." "Can a mother forget the baby at
her breast and have no compassion on the child she
has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget
you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my
hands; your walls are ever before me."
The LORD will surely comfort Zion
and will look with compassion on all her ruins;
he will make her deserts like Eden,
her wastelands like the garden of the LORD.
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and the sound of singing.
"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be
removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be
shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says
the LORD, who has compassion on you.
For this is what the LORD says:
"I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried on her arm
and dandled on her knees.
As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."
When you see this, your heart will rejoice
and you will flourish like grass;
the hand of the LORD will be made known to his
but his fury will be shown to his foes.
For men are not cast off by the Lord forever.Though
he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great
is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly
bring affliction or grief to the children of men.
"I will ransom them from the power of the grave [a]
; I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are
your plagues? Where, O grave, is your destruction?
The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He
cares for those who trust in him,
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and
I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and
learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke
is easy and my burden is light.
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I
shall lose none of all that he has given me, but
raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will
is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes
in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him
up at the last day.
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[;
trust also in me. In my Father's house are many
rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I
am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I
go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and
take you to be with me that you also may be where I
am. You know the way to the place where I am going.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do
not give to you asthe world gives. Do not let your
hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
... because those who are led by the Spirit of God
are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit
that makes you a slave again to fear, but you
received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry,
1 Corinthians 15:52-57
In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will
be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For
the perishable must clothe itself with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When
the perishable has been clothed with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then
the saying that is written will come true: "Death
has been swallowed up in victory." "Where, O death,
is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"The
sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the
law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all
comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so
that we can comfort those in any trouble with the
comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5For
just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our
lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
2 Corinthians 4:13-16
It is written: "I believed; therefore I have
spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also
believe and therefore speak, because we know that
the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will
also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in
his presence. All this is for your benefit, so that
the grace that is reaching more and more people may
cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we
are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed
day by day.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore
I will boast all the more gladly about my
weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in
persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak,
then I am strong.
1 Thessalonians 4:13
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about
those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of
men, who have no hope.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present
your requests to God
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too
shared in their humanity so that by his death he
might destroy him who holds the power of death —
that is, the devil — and free those who all their
lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has
passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God,
let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have
a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our
weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are,
yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the
throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty
hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all
your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
And he said, "These are they who have come out of
the great tribulation; they have washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and
serve him day and night in his temple; and he who
sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
Never again will they hunger; never again will they
thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any
scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the
throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to
springs of living water. And God will wipe away
every tear from their eyes."
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will
be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for
the old order of things has passed away."
